You Have a Voice.
Make it Heard!

On an historic moment in the spring of 1987 the Nebraska Legislature passed the State Employee's Collective Bargaining Act. Under that Act employees like yourself have the right to negotiate with the Governor's representatives to determine many of the key terms of their working lives. State employees work hard to make a good state better. With collective bargaining we have reached a coming of age in the relationship between the executive branch of Nebraska government and its employees.

For you this is a real opportunity to become a full partner on key decisions affecting your pay, benefits and work rules. It's an employment breakthrough that's the direct result of efforts by members of NAPE/AFSCME, the fast-growing union consisting of thousands of state employees all over Nebraska.

People just like you--professional, clerical, health care, trades, technical and social service workers are involved in NAPE/AFSCME. We hope this site will help answer your questions--about who NAPE/AFSCME is and what NAPE/AFSCME does--to make us the strong, effective voice on the job for Nebraska state employees.

Since the early 1970's NAPE and AFSCME each represented state employees. The two organizations combined in 1987 to form one strong, unified force.

AFSCME is a national union--representing 1.4 million public employees throughout the United States. So NAPE/AFSCME is large enough to have major resources to bargain effectively on your behalf. But we're small enough to have the flexibility and responsiveness to allow individuals like you to make a difference.

There is strength in numbers. By working together, Nebraska state employees can improve their lives on and off the job
